Afghan wool Chobi Kilim rug 63x90 cm

Chobi Kilim: from wool material to finished textile

The 63 × 90 cm Chobi Kilim rug is a hand woven wool textile from Afghanistan. Interweaving the yarns creates the Kilim's flat surface; there is no separate knotted pile. The rug is approximately 4–5 mm thick. The rug's colour scheme is defined by red and beige tones.

This rug is 63 cm wide and 90 cm long. Alongside the product photographs, consider both measurements when checking how much space the rug needs.

The rug's surface, woven from 100% wool, is an integral part of the Kilim's structure. During weaving, the yarns interlace to form the textile itself. The 4–5 mm thickness describes this flat-woven construction. To understand the surface, view the detailed images alongside the full-view product photographs.

The video below introduces the making and origins of Chobi Kilim rugs.

The Chobi Kilim rug was made in Afghanistan. The 63 × 90 cm dimensions and wool material are features of the chosen textile. The video introduces the rug type; the product photographs show the rug available to purchase.

During hand weaving, wool yarns form the Chobi Kilim's surface. The four washes that finish the textile are part of the production process. This does not mean that the same method can be used for cleaning at home: care for the finished wool rug according to the gentle-care instructions.

Cleaning and care

Use your vacuum cleaner on low suction for regular dust removal from the wool rug. Clean the woven surface carefully, working particularly gently around the edges. Do not replace regular vacuuming with vigorous beating or rubbing.

If liquid or food lands on the wool rug, do not allow the stain to dry in. Treat the affected area carefully with a slightly damp cloth. Even a wool-suitable cleaner should first be tested on a small area. For heavier soiling, seek professional help.

Care of the wool textile also includes keeping the surface beneath it clean. Move the Kilim occasionally and check its condition. Remember to protect it against moths as well. Choose gentle dust removal instead of vigorous beating with a carpet beater.

Avoid the beating method shown in the photograph for this Kilim rug too.
