Aqcha Bukhara Oriental rug 123x178 cm – handmade rug

Afghan Aqcha rug: details of the selected size

The key features of this Afghan Aqcha rug are its 123 × 178 cm dimensions, 8–10 mm thickness and wool material. The rug originates from Afghanistan and is knotted by hand. The rug is burgundy.

The Aqcha rug is 123 cm wide, 178 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. Its knot density is approximately 80,000 knots/m². The knot count is given per square metre, allowing this rug to be compared with handmade Oriental rugs of different sizes in this respect. This figure does not represent the total number of knots in the entire rug. This size may also be suitable for a bedroom.

This handmade rug has a pile knotted from wool. The knotted fibres form the surface of the rug that is walked on. The direction in which the fibres lie affects how they reflect light: the same surface may appear lighter from one end and darker from the other. Please bear this in mind when comparing the photographs.

The Afghan Aqcha rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.

The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.

The width of 123 cm and length of 178 cm refer to this specific rug. Alongside the illustration of this type of rug, please also review the photographs of the actual product.

Aqcha rug: gentle care

The hand-knotted wool pile requires gentle cleaning. When vacuuming the Afghan Aqcha rug, select the lowest suction setting and work in the direction of the pile. Move the rug occasionally so that you can clean the area underneath. Regularly inspecting the Afghan rug also plays a part in preventing moth damage.

Treat fresh stains as soon as possible with a clean, slightly damp cloth. Do not rub the stain vigorously or soak the rug. Choose only a cleaning product suitable for wool and follow its instructions for use. Test it on a less visible area first; for stubborn stains or more extensive cleaning, consult a professional experienced in handmade Oriental rugs.
