Aqcha Bukhara Oriental rug 125x187 cm – handmade Afghan rug

Afghan Aqcha rug hand-knotted from wool

The key features of this Afghan Aqcha rug are its 125 × 187 cm dimensions, 8–10 mm thickness and wool material. The rug originates from Afghanistan and is knotted by hand. The rug is blue and brown.

The Aqcha rug is 125 cm wide, 187 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. Its knot density is approximately 80,000 knots/m². This figure indicates the number of knots per unit of surface area. Thickness is a separate characteristic: these two measurements describe different aspects of the knotted structure. This size may also be suitable for a bedroom.

The knotted part of this handmade rug is made of wool. Knotted wool fibres form the pile of the rug. Pile direction matters for more than appearance: this is also the direction to follow when vacuuming. The way the surface reflects light may vary depending on which end of the rug you view it from.

The Afghan Aqcha rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.

The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.

When choosing this Afghan Aqcha rug, consider the photographs of the actual product together with its 125 × 187 cm dimensions. The presentation below provides further visual information about this type of rug.

Cleaning the hand-knotted wool pile

The hand-knotted wool pile requires gentle cleaning. When vacuuming the Afghan Aqcha rug, select the lowest suction setting and work in the direction of the pile. Move the rug occasionally so that you can clean the area underneath. Regularly inspecting the Afghan rug also plays a part in preventing moth damage.

For spilled liquids, first blot up the moisture with a clean cloth. Do not rub the wool surface vigorously or use a cleaning product unless you know it is suitable for wool. Always test the chosen product in a less visible area first. For extensive or stubborn soiling, or a full clean, consult a professional.
