Aqcha Bukhara Oriental rug 150x196 cm – handmade Afghan rug

Afghan Aqcha rug: features of the knotted pile

This 150 × 196 cm Afghan Aqcha rug originates from Afghanistan. It is hand-knotted with a wool pile and is 8–10 mm thick. The rug is burgundy.

The Aqcha rug is 150 cm wide, 196 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. Its knot density is approximately 80,000 knots/m². This figure indicates the number of knots per unit of surface area. Thickness is a separate characteristic: these two measurements describe different aspects of the knotted structure. This size may also be suitable for a bedroom.

The knotted part of this handmade rug is made of wool. Hand knotting and the wool pile define the structure of the rug. The direction in which the pile lies affects the appearance: the same rug can look lighter or darker when viewed from different directions. It is therefore useful to compare product photographs taken from different angles before buying.

The Afghan Aqcha rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.

The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.

When choosing this Afghan Aqcha rug, consider the photographs of the actual product together with its 150 × 196 cm dimensions. The presentation below provides further visual information about this type of rug.

Aqcha rug: gentle care

The hand-knotted wool pile requires gentle cleaning. When vacuuming the Afghan Aqcha rug, select the lowest suction setting and work in the direction of the pile. Move the rug occasionally so that you can clean the area underneath. Regularly inspecting the Afghan rug also plays a part in preventing moth damage.

Treat small stains before they dry, using a clean, slightly damp cloth. Avoid vigorous rubbing and soaking the surface. Even a cleaning product suitable for wool should only be used as directed and after testing it first. If the dirt cannot be removed gently, or the whole rug needs cleaning, consult a professional rug cleaner.
