Afghan rug directly from Afghanistan
This Afghan rug measures 250 cm in width and 338 cm in length. This handmade Afghan rug is knotted by hand in Afghanistan and is 8–10 mm thick. The rug has a burgundy colour palette. The rug is made with an Elephant foot pattern.
The Afghan rug is 250 cm wide, 338 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. The knot density is approximately 80,000 knots/m². The knot count is given per square metre, allowing this rug to be compared with handmade Oriental rugs of different sizes in this respect. This figure does not represent the total number of knots in the entire rug. This size may also be suitable for a living room.
This handmade rug has a pile knotted from wool. The appearance of the wool surface may change with the viewing angle. This is due to the direction of the knotted pile: the rug reflects more light from one direction and may look darker from the other. It is therefore useful to compare product photographs taken from several directions.
The Afghan rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.
The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.
The width of 250 cm and length of 338 cm refer to this specific rug. Alongside the illustration of this type of rug, please also review the photographs of the actual product.

Afghan rug: gentle care
Regular, gentle vacuuming is the basis of caring for the Afghan rug. Set the vacuum cleaner to low suction and move the head in the direction of the wool pile. Keep the area beneath the rug clean as well. Avoid vigorous rubbing of the wool pile and, where possible, treat stains before they dry.
Treat fresh stains as soon as possible with a clean, slightly damp cloth. Do not rub the stain vigorously or soak the rug. Choose only a cleaning product suitable for wool and follow its instructions for use. Test it on a less visible area first; for stubborn stains or more extensive cleaning, consult a professional experienced in handmade Oriental rugs.
The video below shows how to clean the hand-knotted pile of a handmade Oriental rug at home.
