Introducing the 255 × 334 cm Afghan rug
This Afghan rug measures 255 cm in width and 334 cm in length. This handmade Afghan rug is knotted by hand in Afghanistan and is 8–10 mm thick. The rug has a burgundy colour palette. The rug is made with an Elephant foot pattern.
The Afghan rug is 255 cm wide, 334 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. Its knot density is approximately 80,000 knots/m². The knot count is given per square metre, allowing this rug to be compared with handmade Oriental rugs of different sizes in this respect. This figure does not represent the total number of knots in the entire rug. The rug may also be suitable for a living room, provided the available space accommodates its dimensions.
This handmade rug has a pile knotted from wool. The fibres of the hand-knotted pile lie in a particular direction. Changes in lighting and viewing angle can therefore produce a lighter or darker overall appearance. This difference between photographs taken from opposite ends of the rug is related to the direction of the pile.
The Afghan rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.
The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.
When choosing this Afghan rug, consider the photographs of the actual product together with its 255 × 334 cm dimensions. The presentation below provides further visual information about this type of rug.

Afghan rug: gentle care
For routine care of the Afghan rug, use a low suction setting on your vacuum cleaner. Work in the direction of the pile and avoid rubbing the wool surface vigorously. Remember to keep the area beneath the rug clean as well; moving the rug occasionally allows you to remove dust that has collected underneath.
Treat fresh stains as soon as possible with a clean, slightly damp cloth. Do not rub the stain vigorously or soak the rug. Choose only a cleaning product suitable for wool and follow its instructions for use. Test it on a less visible area first; for stubborn stains or more extensive cleaning, consult a professional experienced in handmade Oriental rugs.
The video below shows how to clean the hand-knotted pile of a handmade Oriental rug at home.
