Hand woven ethnic Afghan Chobi Kilim rug 200x296 cm

Hand woven Afghan Kilim, 200 × 296 cm

This 200 × 296 cm woollen Kilim rug, in red and blue, belongs to the Chobi Kilim type. Its 296 cm length and 200 cm width are the measurements of this specific rug. It was hand woven in Afghanistan using wool yarns. The rug belongs to the Afghan Chobi Kilim family.

The video introduces the making and origins of Chobi Kilim rugs.

In a hand woven Chobi Kilim, the warp yarns stretched on the loom and the weft yarns crossing them together form the textile. The surface is flat-woven, without a knotted pile. The rug's wool material is therefore an integral part of the woven structure. Its approximately 4–5 mm thickness characterises the thin construction. The production video and the photograph below show this Afghan craft background.

The finished textile is washed and then dried thoroughly. Depending on the weather, sunlight or fans are used to help with drying. Washing during production is not a guide to cleaning at home: subsequent care of the wool rug calls for gentle dust removal and local stain treatment.

The surface of the 200 cm wide Chobi Kilim

The woven wool rug measures 200 × 296 cm, corresponding to approximately 5.92 m². Its material was worked on a loom using hand weaving. Chobi Kilim is the name of this woven rug type. Both the wool material and the woven structure require gentle care.

Full-view product photographs show the entire rug, while close-ups show details of the wool surface. The rug's own photograph series helps you get to know your chosen textile. The illustration in the long description introduces the Chobi Kilim type.

Cleaning the 200 × 296 cm wool rug

Avoid harsh mechanical treatment when cleaning this 200 × 296 cm wool rug. Choose the lowest suction setting for regular vacuuming. For small stains, use a slightly damp cloth without soaking the material. Treat fresh marks gently, preferably before they dry.

Use a cleaner suitable for wool, testing it first on a small, inconspicuous area. If a stain is stubborn or the entire rug needs cleaning, seek professional rug cleaning. Hanging up this hand woven textile and beating out the dust is not recommended. The photograph in the care section illustrates this potentially damaging method.

Avoid the rug-beating method shown in the photograph when caring for a woollen Kilim.
