Hand woven ethnic Afghan Chobi Kilim rug 201x308 cm

Hand weaving the 201 × 308 cm Chobi Kilim

This Afghan Kilim measures exactly 201 × 308 cm; it is 201 cm wide and 308 cm long. The Chobi Kilim rug is woven in orange and off-white shades. Its wool material was hand woven in Afghanistan. The size, material and production method together help you understand the rug in detail.

The video introduces the making and origins of Chobi Kilim rugs.

The rug's flat-woven construction is one of the Kilim's defining structural characteristics. The wool textile is made on a loom by interlacing warp and weft yarns. Together, the yarns form the surface without a knotted pile. The approximately 4–5 mm thickness refers to the rug's overall construction. The Chobi Kilim shown here was hand woven in Afghanistan. The production illustration shows work carried out on a loom.

After weaving, the Chobi Kilim rug is washed and then dried. In favourable weather, drying takes place outdoors; at other times, fans assist the process. These finishing stages are part of production. Subsequent care at home requires gentle cleaning of the wool rug, avoiding soaking.

The wool material of the hand woven rug

The 201 × 308 cm wool rug covers approximately 6.19 m². The wool yarns form the rug's surface, so cleaning must take account of both the material and the hand woven structure. The name Chobi Kilim refers to this Afghan woven rug type.

The rug's own photograph series includes full views and close-up images. View these together when choosing the rug. The illustration accompanying the description introduces the Chobi Kilim type; the specific rug's details are shown in its product photographs.

Caring for the woollen Kilim

Avoid harsh mechanical treatment when cleaning this 201 × 308 cm wool rug. Choose the lowest suction setting for regular vacuuming. For small stains, use a slightly damp cloth without soaking the material. Treat fresh marks gently, preferably before they dry.

Use a cleaner suitable for wool, testing it first on a small, inconspicuous area. If a stain is stubborn or the entire rug needs cleaning, seek professional rug cleaning. Hanging up this hand woven textile and beating out the dust is not recommended. The photograph in the care section illustrates this potentially damaging method.

Avoid the rug-beating method shown in the photograph when caring for a woollen Kilim.
