Hand woven ethnic Afghan Chobi Kilim rug 211x293 cm

How the 211 × 293 cm woollen Kilim is made

This 211 × 293 cm Chobi Kilim is an Afghan rug woven from wool. This Chobi Kilim rug features a red and blue colour scheme. The 211 cm width and 293 cm length together describe the rug's size. It was made by hand on a loom in Afghanistan.

The video introduces the making and origins of Chobi Kilim rugs.

A Chobi Kilim is a wool rug with a woven structure. Its textile surface is created by passing crosswise weft yarns between the warp yarns on the loom. This flat-woven construction has no additional knotted pile. The rug's approximately 4–5 mm thickness therefore describes the woven textile itself. The Afghan Kilim shown here was made by hand from wool yarns. The weaving illustration helps explain the production method.

Washing and drying are the final steps in making a Chobi Kilim. In favourable weather, the washed textiles are dried in the sun; at other times, fans assist the process. The finished rug then joins CarpetDepo's range. Choose a gentle method for care at home and entrust full cleaning to a specialist.

Afghan woollen Kilim measuring 211 × 293 cm

The Chobi Kilim rug shown here is made from wool. Its 211 × 293 cm dimensions give an area of approximately 6.18 m². This rug belongs to the Chobi Kilim type. Both a wool-suitable product and gentle handling of the hand woven surface are important when cleaning it.

The rug's own product photographs show its specific appearance. Close-ups show details of the wool surface, while full views show the entire woven rug. The photograph included in the description complements the introduction to the Chobi Kilim rug type.

Caring for the Chobi Kilim rug

For regular dust removal from the wool textile, use your vacuum cleaner's lowest setting. Gentle cleaning is particularly important for this hand woven rug. For small, fresh marks, use a slightly damp cloth and ensure that the Kilim does not become soaked. Treat the stain before it dries whenever possible.

If you use a cleaning product, choose one suitable for wool and test it first on a small, inconspicuous area. For a stubborn stain or a full clean, consult a rug-cleaning specialist. Avoid hanging up the rug and beating it with a carpet beater, as this may damage the hand woven structure. The photograph of rug beating draws attention to this method, which should be avoided.

Avoid the rug-beating method shown in the photograph when caring for a woollen Kilim.
