Hand woven wool Chobi Kilim rug 196x302 cm

How the 196 × 302 cm woollen Kilim is made

This 196 × 302 cm Chobi Kilim is an Afghan rug woven from wool. This Chobi Kilim rug features a blue and orange colour scheme. The 196 cm width and 302 cm length together describe the rug's size. It was made by hand on a loom in Afghanistan.

The video introduces the making and origins of Chobi Kilim rugs.

A Kilim is a flat-woven textile whose surface consists of intersecting warp and weft yarns. The warp yarns are stretched on the loom, and the weft yarns are worked between them. The textile has no knotted pile, so the weave itself forms its structure. In this Chobi Kilim, this production method is combined with wool yarns. The approximately 4–5 mm thickness describes the thin construction of the entire textile, rather than the length of a separate pile layer.

Washing and drying are the final steps in making a Chobi Kilim. In favourable weather, the washed textiles are dried in the sun; at other times, fans assist the process. The finished rug then joins CarpetDepo's range. Choose a gentle method for care at home and entrust full cleaning to a specialist.

The wool material of the hand woven rug

The Chobi Kilim rug shown here is made from wool. Its 196 × 302 cm dimensions give an area of approximately 5.92 m². This rug belongs to the Chobi Kilim type. Both a wool-suitable product and gentle handling of the hand woven surface are important when cleaning it.

The rug's own product photographs show its specific appearance. Close-ups show details of the wool surface, while full views show the entire woven rug. The photograph included in the description complements the introduction to the Chobi Kilim rug type.

Caring for the Chobi Kilim rug

Care for this woollen Kilim by vacuuming gently on your vacuum cleaner's lowest setting. Use a slightly damp cloth for small, fresh stains. Do not saturate the textile with water, and treat marks before they dry whenever possible. Careful stain treatment suited to the wool material is required.

Before using rug-cleaning foam suitable for wool, test it on a small, inconspicuous area. We recommend professional help for heavier soiling or a thorough clean. Do not clean the Chobi Kilim by beating it with a carpet beater: this can damage its hand woven structure. The accompanying illustration shows a traditional beating method to avoid; it is not a cleaning recommendation.

Avoid the rug-beating method shown in the photograph when caring for a woollen Kilim.
