Hand woven wool Chobi Kilim rug 209x290 cm

How the 209 × 290 cm woollen Kilim is made

This Chobi Kilim textile is 209 cm wide and 290 cm long. Alongside its off-white and green colours, Afghan origins and hand woven construction are its defining features. The rug is made from wool and measures 209 × 290 cm, the dimensions of the product shown.

The video introduces the making and origins of Chobi Kilim rugs.

A Chobi Kilim is a wool rug with a woven structure. Its textile surface is created by passing crosswise weft yarns between the warp yarns on the loom. This flat-woven construction has no additional knotted pile. The rug's approximately 4–5 mm thickness therefore describes the woven textile itself. The Afghan Kilim shown here was made by hand from wool yarns. The weaving illustration helps explain the production method.

Washing and drying are the final steps in making a Chobi Kilim. In favourable weather, the washed textiles are dried in the sun; at other times, fans assist the process. The finished rug then joins CarpetDepo's range. Choose a gentle method for care at home and entrust full cleaning to a specialist.

The wool material of the hand woven rug

The Chobi Kilim rug shown here is made from wool. Its 209 × 290 cm dimensions give an area of approximately 6.06 m². This rug belongs to the Chobi Kilim type. Both a wool-suitable product and gentle handling of the hand woven surface are important when cleaning it.

The rug's own product photographs show its specific appearance. Close-ups show details of the wool surface, while full views show the entire woven rug. The photograph included in the description complements the introduction to the Chobi Kilim rug type.

Caring for the Chobi Kilim rug

Choose a careful cleaning method for this hand woven wool rug. A vacuum cleaner on low suction can be used for everyday dust removal. Use a slightly damp cloth for small marks, taking care to avoid soaking the textile. Whenever possible, treat stains before they dry.

Even a wool-suitable cleaner should only be used after testing it on a small, inconspicuous area. If the entire Kilim needs cleaning or a stain is difficult to treat, seek professional help. Hanging up the textile and beating it with a carpet beater can damage the hand weaving. The accompanying photograph illustrates this cleaning method, which should be avoided.

Avoid the rug-beating method shown in the photograph when caring for a woollen Kilim.
