Hand woven wool Chobi Kilim runner rug 89x293 cm

Hand weaving the 89 × 293 cm Chobi Kilim

The Chobi Kilim runner is 89 cm wide and 293 cm long, giving overall dimensions of 89 × 293 cm. This hand woven Afghan Kilim is made from wool. Its green and red colour scheme is a feature of this specific textile. Its elongated shape and approximately 4–5 mm thickness together characterise the rug.

The video introduces the making and origins of Chobi Kilim rugs.

A Kilim is a flat-woven textile whose surface consists of intersecting warp and weft yarns. The warp yarns are stretched on the loom, and the weft yarns are worked between them. The textile has no knotted pile, so the weave itself forms its structure. In this Chobi Kilim, this production method is combined with wool yarns. The approximately 4–5 mm thickness describes the thin construction of the entire textile, rather than the length of a separate pile layer.

Weaving is followed by washing and drying the Chobi Kilim. After finishing, the runner joins CarpetDepo's range. Washing during production is not a guide to cleaning at home: subsequent care of the wool textile calls for gentle dust removal and careful stain treatment. For a thorough clean, we recommend help from a rug-cleaning specialist.

Details of the 89 × 293 cm woven wool rug

The 89 × 293 cm wool rug covers approximately 2.61 m². The wool yarns form the rug's surface, so cleaning must take account of both the material and the hand woven structure. The name Chobi Kilim refers to this Afghan woven rug type.

The rug's own photograph series includes full views and close-up images. View these together when choosing the rug. The illustration accompanying the description introduces the Chobi Kilim type; the specific rug's details are shown in its product photographs.

Caring for the woollen Kilim

Care for this woollen Kilim by vacuuming gently on your vacuum cleaner's lowest setting. Use a slightly damp cloth for small, fresh stains. Do not saturate the textile with water, and treat marks before they dry whenever possible. Careful stain treatment suited to the wool material is required.

Before using rug-cleaning foam suitable for wool, test it on a small, inconspicuous area. We recommend professional help for heavier soiling or a thorough clean. Do not clean the Chobi Kilim by beating it with a carpet beater: this can damage its hand woven structure. The accompanying illustration shows a traditional beating method to avoid; it is not a cleaning recommendation.

Avoid the rug-beating method shown in the photograph when caring for a woollen Kilim.
