Handmade Afghan Kazak round rug 168x171

Introducing the 168 × 171 cm Kazak rug

This 168 × 171 cm Kazak rug originates from Afghanistan. It is handmade with a wool pile and is 8–10 mm thick. The rug features a burgundy and beige colour palette.

The Kazak rug is 168 cm wide, 171 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. Before ordering, measure out the exact dimensions in the available space. The photograph shows the rug's appearance, but both measurements are needed to assess its actual size.

The knotted part of the rug is made of wool. Hand-knotting and the wool pile define the rug's construction. The direction in which the fibres lie changes the appearance from different angles: the same rug can look both lighter and darker. It is therefore helpful to view product photographs from different angles together before purchasing.

Kazak is the name of the rug type; this handmade Kazak rug was handmade in Afghanistan. Its pattern is based on geometric elements. The rug is made using Ghiordes knots. Knotting and forming the pile are followed by washing: the rug is washed four times. Washing is a finishing step in production and does not describe how or how often to clean the rug at home. After washing during production, the rug is dried in the sun.

Cleaning advice for this wool rug

Regular, careful vacuuming is the basis of caring for a Kazak rug. Set the vacuum cleaner to low suction and move the head in the direction in which the wool fibres lie. Keep the area underneath the rug clean too. Avoid rubbing the wool pile vigorously and, where possible, treat marks before they dry.

Treat small stains before they dry, using a clean, slightly damp cloth. Avoid vigorous rubbing and soaking the pile. Even a cleaning product suitable for wool should only be used as directed and after testing it first. If the dirt cannot be removed gently, or the whole rug needs cleaning, entrust the task to a professional rug cleaner.
