Handmade oriental Kazak rug 118x182

Handmade Kazak rug in handmade wool

This 118 × 182 cm Kazak rug originates from Afghanistan. It is handmade with a wool pile and is 8–10 mm thick. Grey and beige shades define the rug's appearance.

The Kazak rug is 118 cm wide, 182 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. The knot density is approximately 180,000 knots/m². The knot count is given per square metre, allowing you to compare this aspect of the rug with handmade rugs of different sizes. This figure does not represent the total number of knots in the whole rug. This size may also be an option for a bedroom.

The knotted part of the rug is made of wool. The warp threads are wool. The knotted wool fibres form the rug's surface. Pile direction matters for more than appearance: it is also the direction you should follow when vacuuming. The way the surface reflects light may differ depending on which end of the rug you view it from.

This handmade Afghan Kazak rug is an oriental rug. Its geometric patterns are complemented by a wool pile formed by hand. The rug is made using Ghiordes knots. The rug is washed four times during the final stage of production. This is part of the manufacturing process; for care at home, follow the cleaning advice below rather than the washing process used during production. After washing during production, the rug is dried in the sun.

Cleaning advice for this wool rug

For regular care of the Kazak rug, use a low suction setting on your vacuum cleaner. Work in the direction in which the fibres lie and avoid rubbing the wool pile vigorously. Remember to keep the area underneath the rug clean; moving the rug occasionally allows you to remove any dust that has collected beneath it.

Treat small stains before they dry, using a clean, slightly damp cloth. Avoid vigorous rubbing and soaking the pile. Even a cleaning product suitable for wool should only be used as directed and after testing it first. If the dirt cannot be removed gently, or the whole rug needs cleaning, entrust the task to a professional rug cleaner.
