Handmade oriental Kazak rug 124x175

Introducing the 124 × 175 cm Kazak rug

This Afghan Kazak rug measures 124 × 175 cm and is handmade. It has a wool pile and a thickness of 8–10 mm. The rug is beige.

The Kazak rug is 124 cm wide, 175 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. The knot density is approximately 180,000 knots/m². Knot density is one numerical characteristic of the pile structure. It should be considered alongside thickness; a thicker rug does not in itself have a higher knot density. This size may also be an option for a bedroom.

It has a knotted wool pile. The knots are tied around wool warp threads. The knotted wool fibres form the rug's surface. Pile direction matters for more than appearance: it is also the direction you should follow when vacuuming. The way the surface reflects light may differ depending on which end of the rug you view it from.

This handmade Afghan Kazak rug is an oriental rug. Its geometric patterns are complemented by a wool pile formed by hand. Ghiordes knots were used to create the pile. Knotting and forming the pile are followed by washing: the rug is washed four times. Washing is a finishing step in production and does not describe how or how often to clean the rug at home. After washing during production, the rug is dried in the sun.

Caring for a Kazak rug

Regular, careful vacuuming is the basis of caring for a Kazak rug. Set the vacuum cleaner to low suction and move the head in the direction in which the wool fibres lie. Keep the area underneath the rug clean too. Avoid rubbing the wool pile vigorously and, where possible, treat marks before they dry.

Prompt, gentle action is important when dealing with a stain. Try removing fresh marks with a slightly damp cloth, without soaking the rug or rubbing vigorously. Only use a cleaning product suitable for wool rugs, following the manufacturer's instructions and testing it first. For more extensive cleaning, choose a professional experienced in caring for handmade rugs.
