Handmade oriental Kazak rug 124x186

Kazak rug: details of the selected size

This Kazak rug is 124 cm wide and 186 cm long. The handmade wool rug originates from Afghanistan and is 8–10 mm thick. Green and beige shades define the rug's appearance.

The Kazak rug is 124 cm wide, 186 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. The knot density is approximately 180,000 knots/m². Knot density is one numerical characteristic of the pile structure. It should be considered alongside thickness; a thicker rug does not in itself have a higher knot density. Its dimensions may also make it suitable for a bedroom.

The knotted part of the rug is made of wool. The warp threads are wool. Hand-knotting and the wool pile define the rug's construction. The direction in which the fibres lie changes the appearance from different angles: the same rug can look both lighter and darker. It is therefore helpful to view product photographs from different angles together before purchasing.

Kazak is the name of the rug type; this handmade Kazak rug was handmade in Afghanistan. Its pattern is based on geometric elements. The rug is made using Ghiordes knots. The finishing stages of making the rug include four washes. This is part of the production process; during use, continue to follow gentle care instructions suitable for wool. After washing during production, the rug is dried in the sun.

Caring for a Kazak rug

When cleaning the Kazak rug, protecting the wool fibres should be your priority. Vacuum on a low setting, following the direction of the pile. Clean underneath the rug regularly too, and inspect the less visible areas from time to time. Check the less visible parts of the rug regularly for dirt as well.

For liquid spills, first blot up the moisture with a clean cloth. Do not rub the wool pile vigorously or use a cleaning product unless you know it is suitable for wool. Always test the chosen product on an inconspicuous area. Leave extensive or stubborn soiling, as well as a full clean, to a professional.
