Handmade oriental Kazak rug 145x195

Kazak rug – characteristics of the knotted pile

This Afghan Kazak rug measures 145 × 195 cm and is handmade. It has a wool pile and a thickness of 8–10 mm. The rug features a beige and burgundy colour palette.

The Kazak rug is 145 cm wide, 195 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. Its knot density is approximately 180,000 knots/m². The knot count is given per square metre, allowing you to compare this aspect of the rug with handmade rugs of different sizes. This figure does not represent the total number of knots in the whole rug. Its dimensions may also make it suitable for a bedroom.

The pile is handmade from wool yarn. The knots are tied around wool warp threads. Hand-knotting and the wool pile define the rug's construction. The direction in which the fibres lie changes the appearance from different angles: the same rug can look both lighter and darker. It is therefore helpful to view product photographs from different angles together before purchasing.

This handmade Afghan Kazak rug is an oriental rug. Its geometric patterns are complemented by a wool pile formed by hand. The rug is made using Ghiordes knots. Knotting and forming the pile are followed by washing: the rug is washed four times. Washing is a finishing step in production and does not describe how or how often to clean the rug at home. After washing during production, the rug is dried in the sun.

Kazak rug: gentle care

For regular care of the Kazak rug, use a low suction setting on your vacuum cleaner. Work in the direction in which the fibres lie and avoid rubbing the wool pile vigorously. Remember to keep the area underneath the rug clean; moving the rug occasionally allows you to remove any dust that has collected beneath it.

Treat fresh marks as soon as possible using a clean, slightly damp cloth. Do not rub the stain vigorously or soak the rug. Choose only a cleaning product suitable for wool and follow its instructions for use. Test it on an inconspicuous area first; for stubborn stains or more extensive cleaning, seek help from a professional familiar with handmade rugs.
