Handmade oriental Kazak rug 175x243

Introducing the 175 × 243 cm Kazak rug

This Kazak rug is 175 cm wide and 243 cm long. The handmade wool rug originates from Afghanistan and is 8–10 mm thick. The rug is grey and beige.

The Kazak rug is 175 cm wide, 243 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. Its knot density is approximately 180,000 knots/m². This value expresses the number of knots per unit of surface area. Thickness is a separate characteristic: the two measurements describe different aspects of the knotted structure. This size may also be an option for a living room.

It has a knotted wool pile. The warp threads are wool. The knotted wool fibres form the rug's surface. Pile direction matters for more than appearance: it is also the direction you should follow when vacuuming. The way the surface reflects light may differ depending on which end of the rug you view it from.

This handmade Afghan Kazak rug is an oriental rug. Its geometric patterns are complemented by a wool pile formed by hand. The rug is made using Ghiordes knots. Knotting and forming the pile are followed by washing: the rug is washed four times. Washing is a finishing step in production and does not describe how or how often to clean the rug at home. After washing during production, the rug is dried in the sun.

Caring for a Kazak rug

Regular, careful vacuuming is the basis of caring for a Kazak rug. Set the vacuum cleaner to low suction and move the head in the direction in which the wool fibres lie. Keep the area underneath the rug clean too. Avoid rubbing the wool pile vigorously and, where possible, treat marks before they dry.

For liquid spills, first blot up the moisture with a clean cloth. Do not rub the wool pile vigorously or use a cleaning product unless you know it is suitable for wool. Always test the chosen product on an inconspicuous area. Leave extensive or stubborn soiling, as well as a full clean, to a professional.
