Handmade oriental Kazak rug 198x286

Kazak rug: size, material and construction

This Kazak rug is 198 cm wide and 286 cm long. The handmade wool rug originates from Afghanistan and is 8–10 mm thick. The rug is green and beige.

The Kazak rug is 198 cm wide, 286 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. The knot density is approximately 180,000 knots/m². Knot density is one numerical characteristic of the pile structure. It should be considered alongside thickness; a thicker rug does not in itself have a higher knot density. Its dimensions may also make it suitable for a living room.

The pile is handmade from wool yarn. The knots are tied around wool warp threads. The fibres of the handmade pile lie in a particular direction. As a result, changes in lighting and viewing angle can make the overall appearance lighter or darker. Differences of this kind between photographs taken from opposite ends of the rug relate to the direction of the pile.

This handmade Afghan Kazak rug is an oriental rug. Its geometric patterns are complemented by a wool pile formed by hand. Ghiordes knots were used to create the pile. The rug is washed four times during the final stage of production. This is part of the manufacturing process; for care at home, follow the cleaning advice below rather than the washing process used during production. After washing during production, the rug is dried in the sun.

Caring for a Kazak rug

For regular care of the Kazak rug, use a low suction setting on your vacuum cleaner. Work in the direction in which the fibres lie and avoid rubbing the wool pile vigorously. Remember to keep the area underneath the rug clean; moving the rug occasionally allows you to remove any dust that has collected beneath it.

For liquid spills, first blot up the moisture with a clean cloth. Do not rub the wool pile vigorously or use a cleaning product unless you know it is suitable for wool. Always test the chosen product on an inconspicuous area. Leave extensive or stubborn soiling, as well as a full clean, to a professional.
