Handmade oriental Kazak runner rug 79x300

Kazak runner rug: size, material and construction

The defining features of this Kazak runner rug are its 79 × 300 cm dimensions, 8–10 mm thickness and wool material. The rug originates from Afghanistan and is handmade. The rug features a blue and beige colour palette.

The Kazak runner rug is 79 cm wide, 300 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. Its knot density is approximately 180,000 knots/m². The knot count is given per square metre, allowing you to compare this aspect of the rug with handmade rugs of different sizes. This figure does not represent the total number of knots in the whole rug. This size may also be an option for a hallway.

The knotted part of the rug is made of wool. The knots are tied around wool warp threads. The appearance of the wool pile may change with the viewing angle. This is caused by the direction in which the knotted fibres lie: the rug may reflect more light from one direction and appear darker from the other. It is therefore worth comparing product photographs taken from different angles.

Kazak is the name of the rug type; this handmade Kazak rug was handmade in Afghanistan. Its pattern is based on geometric elements. The rug is made using Ghiordes knots. The finishing stages of making the rug include four washes. This is part of the production process; during use, continue to follow gentle care instructions suitable for wool. After washing during production, the rug is dried in the sun.

Kazak runner rug: gentle care

For regular care of the Kazak runner rug, use a low suction setting on your vacuum cleaner. Work in the direction in which the fibres lie and avoid rubbing the wool pile vigorously. Remember to keep the area underneath the rug clean; moving the rug occasionally allows you to remove any dust that has collected beneath it.

For liquid spills, first blot up the moisture with a clean cloth. Do not rub the wool pile vigorously or use a cleaning product unless you know it is suitable for wool. Always test the chosen product on an inconspicuous area. Leave extensive or stubborn soiling, as well as a full clean, to a professional.
