Hand woven Afghan wool Chobi Kilim rug 115x81 cm

Material of the 115 × 81 cm Chobi Kilim

This hand woven Chobi Kilim is 81 cm wide and 115 cm long. You can examine the red and purple colours of this 115 × 81 cm Afghan woven wool rug in its own product photographs. Understanding how it is made involves the work on the loom, the wool material and the finishing washes.

The video introduces the making and origins of Chobi Kilim rugs.

The woven wool rug measures 115 × 81 cm, corresponding to approximately 0.93 m². Its material was worked on a loom using hand weaving. Chobi Kilim is the name of this woven rug type. Both the wool material and the woven structure require gentle care.

Full-view product photographs show the entire rug, while close-ups show details of the wool surface. The rug's own photograph series helps you get to know your chosen textile. The illustration in the long description introduces the Chobi Kilim type.

Hand woven Afghan Kilim, 115 × 81 cm

Interweaving wool yarns on a loom creates the Chobi Kilim's surface. Crosswise weft yarns interlace with the stretched warp yarns to form the flat textile. The Kilim has no separate knotted pile; its surface is formed by the weave itself. In this rug, that structure is approximately 4–5 mm thick. Its hand woven construction is combined with wool material and Afghan origins.

The finished textile is washed and then dried thoroughly. Depending on the weather, sunlight or fans are used to help with drying. Washing during production is not a guide to cleaning at home: subsequent care of the wool rug calls for gentle dust removal and local stain treatment.

Cleaning the 115 × 81 cm wool rug

For regular dust removal from the wool textile, use your vacuum cleaner's lowest setting. Gentle cleaning is particularly important for this hand woven rug. For small, fresh marks, use a slightly damp cloth and ensure that the Kilim does not become soaked. Treat the stain before it dries whenever possible.

If you use a cleaning product, choose one suitable for wool and test it first on a small, inconspicuous area. For a stubborn stain or a full clean, consult a rug-cleaning specialist. Avoid hanging up the rug and beating it with a carpet beater, as this may damage the hand woven structure. The photograph of rug beating draws attention to this method, which should be avoided.

Avoid the rug-beating method shown in the photograph when caring for a woollen Kilim.
