Hand woven Afghan Kilim, 205 × 287 cm

This hand woven Chobi Kilim is 205 cm wide and 287 cm long. You can examine the red and yellow colours of this 205 × 287 cm Afghan woven wool rug in its own product photographs. Understanding how it is made involves the work on the loom, the wool material and the finishing washes.

The video introduces the making and origins of Chobi Kilim rugs.

A Chobi Kilim is a wool rug with a woven structure. Its textile surface is created by passing crosswise weft yarns between the warp yarns on the loom. This flat-woven construction has no additional knotted pile. The rug's approximately 4–5 mm thickness therefore describes the woven textile itself. The Afghan Kilim shown here was made by hand from wool yarns. The weaving illustration helps explain the production method.

After weaving, the Chobi Kilim also undergoes washing and drying. This type is washed four times and the woven textile is then dried. The finished rug's thickness of around 4–5 mm reflects its thin construction. Washing during production is different from subsequent stain treatment at home, which requires a gentle approach.

Making a 200x300 Kilim rug

The Chobi Kilim's red and yellow shades appear on the surface woven from 100% wool. The 205 × 287 cm size corresponds to approximately 5.88 m². This hand woven wool rug belongs to the Chobi Kilim type. Alongside a wool-suitable cleaning product, gentle handling of the textile is important, particularly when removing stains.

Full-view product photographs show the entire rug, while close-ups show details of the wool surface. The rug's own photograph series helps you get to know your chosen textile. The illustration in the long description introduces the Chobi Kilim type.

Cleaning the 205 × 287 cm wool rug

Choose a careful cleaning method for this hand woven wool rug. A vacuum cleaner on low suction can be used for everyday dust removal. Use a slightly damp cloth for small marks, taking care to avoid soaking the textile. Whenever possible, treat stains before they dry.

Even a wool-suitable cleaner should only be used after testing it on a small, inconspicuous area. If the entire Kilim needs cleaning or a stain is difficult to treat, seek professional help. Hanging up the textile and beating it with a carpet beater can damage the hand weaving. The accompanying photograph illustrates this cleaning method, which should be avoided.
