Maimana Kilim rug 60x85 cm

Material and origins of the hand woven Maimana Kilim

This 60 × 85 cm woollen Kilim belongs to the Maimana Kilim rug family. It is an Afghan hand woven rug whose textile structure is formed by weaving the yarns. It is approximately 4–5 mm thick. The rug's surface features red and yellow shades.

The rug is 60 cm wide and 85 cm long. Consider both measurements when assessing space requirements, and measure the available area before ordering.

Made from 100% wool, the Maimana Kilim rug is a woven textile. Its production method is hand weaving, so the interwoven yarns and flat construction are its defining features. The approximately 4–5 mm thickness and the specific rug's dimensions together describe its physical construction.

On the loom, the wool yarns form a continuous textile. During finishing, hand weaving of the Maimana Kilim is followed by four washes. Washing during production and care during use are different tasks; this textile also requires gentle cleaning suited to wool.

Cleaning suited to the rug's material

Regular, gentle vacuuming is the basis of caring for a hand woven wool rug. Use low suction and avoid rubbing the textile's surface vigorously. Guide the vacuum cleaner carefully around the edges too.

Small stains should be treated while fresh with a slightly damp cloth. Do not soak the wool surface or rub it vigorously. If you use a cleaner, check that it is recommended for wool and carry out a test first. Entrust thorough cleaning to a specialist.

When moving the rug occasionally, inspect the wool textile and remove dust collected underneath. Pay attention to protection against moths too. Hanging up the textile and beating it with a stick is not recommended, as it can damage the weave.

Avoid the beating method shown in the photograph for this Kilim rug too.
