Mushwani prayer rug: details of the selected size

This Mushwani prayer rug measures 87 cm in width and 131 cm in length. This handmade Afghan rug is knotted by hand in Afghanistan and is 8–10 mm thick. The rug is burgundy.

The Mushwani prayer rug measures 87 cm in width, 131 cm in length and 8–10 mm in thickness. Thickness is a separate characteristic of the pile, while the width and length describe the area covered by the rug. Checking these measurements together before ordering gives you a clearer picture of the rug you have selected. This size may also be suitable for a bedroom.

The knotted part of this handmade rug is made of wool. The appearance of the wool surface may change with the viewing angle. This is due to the direction of the knotted pile: the rug reflects more light from one direction and may look darker from the other. It is therefore useful to compare product photographs taken from several directions.

This Baluch Mushwani rug belongs to the category of Afghan nomadic rugs. Its geometric decoration is associated with the design traditions of nomadic rug making. For this rug, the wool material, hand knotting and Afghan origin together define the product type.

Cleaning the hand-knotted wool pile

For routine care of the Mushwani prayer rug, use a low suction setting on your vacuum cleaner. Work in the direction of the pile and avoid rubbing the wool surface vigorously. Remember to keep the area beneath the rug clean as well; moving the rug occasionally allows you to remove dust that has collected underneath.

With stains, prompt and gentle treatment is important. Try removing fresh dirt with a slightly damp cloth, without soaking or vigorous rubbing. Use only a cleaning product suitable for Afghan rugs, following the manufacturer's instructions and testing it first. For more extensive cleaning, choose a professional experienced in caring for handmade Oriental rugs.
