Mushwani prayer rug 97x148 cm – hand-knotted nomadic rug

Introducing the 97 × 148 cm Mushwani prayer rug

The key features of this Mushwani prayer rug are its 97 × 148 cm dimensions, 8–10 mm thickness and wool material. The rug originates from Afghanistan and is knotted by hand. The rug has a burgundy colour palette.

The Mushwani prayer rug measures 97 cm in width, 148 cm in length and 8–10 mm in thickness. It is worth measuring out the exact width and length in the available space before ordering. The photograph shows the appearance of the rug, but both dimensions are needed to assess its actual size. This size may also be suitable for a bedroom.

This handmade rug has a pile knotted from wool. The appearance of the wool surface may change with the viewing angle. This is due to the direction of the knotted pile: the rug reflects more light from one direction and may look darker from the other. It is therefore useful to compare product photographs taken from several directions.

This Baluch Mushwani rug belongs to the category of Afghan nomadic rugs. Its geometric decoration is associated with the design traditions of nomadic rug making. For this rug, the wool material, hand knotting and Afghan origin together define the product type.

Mushwani prayer rug: gentle care

Regular, gentle vacuuming is the basis of caring for the Mushwani prayer rug. Set the vacuum cleaner to low suction and move the head in the direction of the wool pile. Keep the area beneath the rug clean as well. Avoid vigorous rubbing of the wool pile and, where possible, treat stains before they dry.

Treat fresh stains as soon as possible with a clean, slightly damp cloth. Do not rub the stain vigorously or soak the rug. Choose only a cleaning product suitable for wool and follow its instructions for use. Test it on a less visible area first; for stubborn stains or more extensive cleaning, consult a professional experienced in handmade Oriental rugs.
