Burgundy Aqchai Oriental rug 74x113 cm – handmade rug

Afghan Aqchai rug hand-knotted from wool

This Afghan Aqchai rug is a handmade Oriental rug of Afghan origin, measuring 74 × 113 cm. With its wool pile, it is 8–10 mm thick. Shades of burgundy define the colour palette of the rug.

The Aqchai rug is 74 cm wide, 113 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. Its knot density is approximately 80,000 knots/m². This figure indicates the number of knots per unit of surface area. Thickness is a separate characteristic: these two measurements describe different aspects of the knotted structure.

This handmade rug has a pile knotted from wool. Hand knotting and the wool pile define the structure of the rug. The direction in which the pile lies affects the appearance: the same rug can look lighter or darker when viewed from different directions. It is therefore useful to compare product photographs taken from different angles before buying.

The Afghan Aqchai rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.

The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.

When choosing this Afghan Aqchai rug, consider the photographs of the actual product together with its 74 × 113 cm dimensions. The presentation below provides further visual information about this type of rug.

Cleaning information for this Afghan rug

Regular, gentle vacuuming is the basis of caring for the Afghan Aqchai rug. Set the vacuum cleaner to low suction and move the head in the direction of the wool pile. Keep the area beneath the rug clean as well. Avoid vigorous rubbing of the wool pile and, where possible, treat stains before they dry.

Treat small stains before they dry, using a clean, slightly damp cloth. Avoid vigorous rubbing and soaking the surface. Even a cleaning product suitable for wool should only be used as directed and after testing it first. If the dirt cannot be removed gently, or the whole rug needs cleaning, consult a professional rug cleaner.
