Burgundy Aqchai Oriental runner rug 81x292 cm – handmade rug

Afghan Aqchai runner rug: dimensions, material and making

The key features of this Afghan Aqchai runner rug are its 81 × 292 cm dimensions, 8–10 mm thickness and wool material. The rug originates from Afghanistan and is knotted by hand. Shades of burgundy define the colour palette of the rug.

The Aqchai runner rug is 81 cm wide, 292 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. Thickness is a separate characteristic of the pile, while the width and length describe the area covered by the rug. Checking these measurements together before ordering gives you a clearer picture of the rug you have selected. Its dimensions may also make it suitable for a hallway.

This handmade rug has a pile knotted from wool. Hand knotting and the wool pile define the structure of the rug. The direction in which the pile lies affects the appearance: the same rug can look lighter or darker when viewed from different directions. It is therefore useful to compare product photographs taken from different angles before buying.

The Afghan Aqchai runner rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.

The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.

Caring for your Aqchai runner rug

Regular, gentle vacuuming is the basis of caring for the Afghan Aqchai runner rug. Set the vacuum cleaner to low suction and move the head in the direction of the wool pile. Keep the area beneath the rug clean as well. Avoid vigorous rubbing of the wool pile and, where possible, treat stains before they dry.

With stains, prompt and gentle treatment is important. Try removing fresh dirt with a slightly damp cloth, without soaking or vigorous rubbing. Use only a cleaning product suitable for Afghan rugs, following the manufacturer's instructions and testing it first. For more extensive cleaning, choose a professional experienced in caring for handmade Oriental rugs.
