Arijana Shaal rug from Afghanistan

This Arijana Shaal rug measures 175 cm in width and 231 cm in length. The handmade wool rug originates from Afghanistan and is 7–8 mm thick. The rug is red and blue.

The Arijana Shaal rug is 175 cm wide, 231 cm long and 7–8 mm thick. It is worth measuring out the exact width and length in the available space before ordering. The photograph shows the rug's appearance, but both dimensions are needed to assess its actual footprint. Its dimensions may also make it suitable for a living room.

It has a knotted wool pile. Knotted wool fibres form the surface of the rug. The pile direction matters not only for appearance: it should also guide your vacuuming. The surface may reflect light differently depending on which end of the rug you view it from.

The Arijana Shaal Oriental rug, also known as a Khorjin rug, is known as a modern Persian rug and is made in Afghanistan. As a handmade Afghan rug, it is characterised by both its wool pile and its knotted construction. The rug is made using Gheordes knots. During the final stage of production, the rug is washed four times. This is part of production, so for care at home, follow the cleaning advice below rather than the washing process used during manufacture. After washing during production, the rug is dried in the sun.

The Arijana Shaal rug is handmade. Knots formed from wool yarn create the rug's pile; this method of construction is one of the rug's defining features. The image showing production provides an overview of the process.

The image below illustrates how this rug type is made.

Processing the wool yarn and creating the knotted pile are separate stages of work. This Arijana Shaal rug is made by hand. The illustration below relates to the production of this rug type.

The 175 cm width and 231 cm length refer to this particular rug. Alongside the illustration of the rug type, please also review the photographs of the actual product.

Caring for the Arijana Shaal rug

Regular, gentle vacuuming is the basis of caring for the Arijana Shaal rug. Set the vacuum cleaner to low suction and move the head in the direction of the wool pile. Keep the area beneath the rug clean as well. Avoid vigorous rubbing of the wool surface and, where possible, treat soiling before it dries.

For spilled liquids, first blot up the moisture with a clean cloth. Do not rub the wool surface vigorously or use a cleaning product unless you know it is suitable for wool. Always test your chosen cleaner on a less visible area first. Extensive or stubborn soiling, as well as full cleaning, is best left to a professional.
