Turkmen Balisht Nakhsha rug 46x104 cm – hand-knotted authentic rug

Turkmen Balisht Nakhsha rug: features of the knotted pile

This Turkmen Balisht Nakhsha rug is a handmade Oriental rug of Afghan origin, measuring 46 × 104 cm. With its wool pile, it is 8–10 mm thick. The rug is burgundy.

The Turkmen Balisht Nakhsha rug is 46 cm wide, 104 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. It is worth measuring out the exact width and length in the available space before ordering. The photograph shows the appearance of the rug, but both dimensions are needed to assess its actual size.

This handmade rug has a pile hand-knotted from wool yarn. The knotted fibres form the surface of the rug that is walked on. The direction in which the fibres lie affects how they reflect light: the same surface may appear lighter from one end and darker from the other. Please bear this in mind when comparing the photographs.

The Balisht Nakhsha rug is associated with Afghan Turkmen rug making. Here, the term Turkmen refers to the cultural background of the rug; its country of origin is Afghanistan. Its hand-knotted wool pile requires gentle care.

Cleaning the hand-knotted wool pile

For routine care of the Turkmen Balisht Nakhsha rug, use a low suction setting on your vacuum cleaner. Work in the direction of the pile and avoid rubbing the wool surface vigorously. Remember to keep the area beneath the rug clean as well; moving the rug occasionally allows you to remove dust that has collected underneath.

With stains, prompt and gentle treatment is important. Try removing fresh dirt with a slightly damp cloth, without soaking or vigorous rubbing. Use only a cleaning product suitable for Afghan rugs, following the manufacturer's instructions and testing it first. For more extensive cleaning, choose a professional experienced in caring for handmade Oriental rugs.
