Turkmen Balisht Nakhsha rug 53x111 cm – small handmade rug

Turkmen Balisht Nakhsha rug: details of the selected size

The key features of this Turkmen Balisht Nakhsha rug are its 53 × 111 cm dimensions, 8–10 mm thickness and wool material. The rug originates from Afghanistan and is knotted by hand. The rug is burgundy.

The Turkmen Balisht Nakhsha rug is 53 cm wide, 111 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. It is worth measuring out the exact width and length in the available space before ordering. The photograph shows the appearance of the rug, but both dimensions are needed to assess its actual size.

This handmade rug has a pile hand-knotted from wool yarn. The knotted fibres form the surface of the rug that is walked on. The direction in which the fibres lie affects how they reflect light: the same surface may appear lighter from one end and darker from the other. Please bear this in mind when comparing the photographs.

The Balisht Nakhsha rug is associated with Afghan Turkmen rug making. Here, the term Turkmen refers to the cultural background of the rug; its country of origin is Afghanistan. Its hand-knotted wool pile requires gentle care.

Cleaning the hand-knotted wool pile

The hand-knotted wool pile requires gentle cleaning. When vacuuming the Turkmen Balisht Nakhsha rug, select the lowest suction setting and work in the direction of the pile. Move the rug occasionally so that you can clean the area underneath. Regularly inspecting the Afghan rug also plays a part in preventing moth damage.

For spilled liquids, first blot up the moisture with a clean cloth. Do not rub the wool surface vigorously or use a cleaning product unless you know it is suitable for wool. Always test the chosen product in a less visible area first. For extensive or stubborn soiling, or a full clean, consult a professional.
