Hand woven Afghan wool Chobi Kilim rug 209x317 cm

Material and origins of the hand woven Chobi Kilim

This 209 × 317 cm woollen Kilim belongs to the Chobi Kilim rug family. It is an Afghan hand woven rug whose textile structure is formed by weaving the yarns. It is approximately 4–5 mm thick. The rug's surface features beige and burgundy shades.

The rug is 209 cm wide and 317 cm long. Consider both measurements when assessing space requirements, and measure the available area before ordering. Its size also makes it an option for a living room.

Made from 100% wool, the Chobi Kilim rug is a woven textile. Its production method is hand weaving, so the interwoven yarns and flat construction are its defining features. The approximately 4–5 mm thickness and the specific rug's dimensions together describe its physical construction.

The video below introduces the making and origins of Chobi Kilim rugs.

This rug belongs to the Chobi Kilim family. The 209 × 317 cm textile originates in Afghanistan. The video introduces the rug type's production and background; the appearance of your chosen rug can be seen in its own product photographs.

The photograph shows a Kilim rug being woven by hand.

On the loom, the wool yarns form a continuous textile. During finishing, hand weaving of the Chobi Kilim is followed by four washes. Washing during production and care during use are different tasks; this textile also requires gentle cleaning suited to wool.

The following photograph illustrates the Chobi Kilim rug type.

Gentle care of the Chobi Kilim rug

Regular, gentle vacuuming is the basis of caring for a hand woven wool rug. Use low suction and avoid rubbing the textile's surface vigorously. Guide the vacuum cleaner carefully around the edges too.

Prompt and gentle action is important when dealing with a stain. Use a slightly damp cloth without soaking or vigorously rubbing the textile. Before applying a cleaner, test it on an inconspicuous area. Entrust more extensive cleaning to a specialist experienced in wool rugs.

When moving the rug occasionally, inspect the wool textile and remove dust collected underneath. Pay attention to protection against moths too. Hanging up the textile and beating it with a stick is not recommended, as it can damage the weave.

Avoid the beating method shown in the photograph for this Kilim rug too.
