Burgundy Afghan rug with a Caucasian pattern 100x139 cm – handmade Oriental rug

Afghan rug with a Caucasian pattern from Afghanistan

The key features of this Afghan rug with a Caucasian pattern are its 100 × 139 cm dimensions, 8–10 mm thickness and wool material. The rug originates from Afghanistan and is knotted by hand. Shades of burgundy define the colour palette of the rug.

The rug with a Caucasian pattern is 100 cm wide, 139 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. Dimensions are particularly important when choosing online: the proportions visible in photographs should be considered alongside them. Checking the full width and length together helps you decide whether the rug you have selected is the right size. The rug may also be suitable for a bedroom, provided the available space accommodates its dimensions.

The knotted part of this handmade rug is made of wool. Hand knotting and the wool pile define the structure of the rug. The direction in which the pile lies affects the appearance: the same rug can look lighter or darker when viewed from different directions. It is therefore useful to compare product photographs taken from different angles before buying.

This Afghan rug with a Caucasian pattern is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.

The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.

The width of 100 cm and length of 139 cm refer to this specific rug. Alongside the illustration of this type of rug, please also review the photographs of the actual product.

Cleaning information for this Afghan rug

The hand-knotted wool pile requires gentle cleaning. When vacuuming this Afghan rug with a Caucasian pattern, select the lowest suction setting and work in the direction of the pile. Move the rug occasionally so that you can clean the area underneath. Regularly inspecting the Afghan rug also plays a part in preventing moth damage.

Treat small stains before they dry, using a clean, slightly damp cloth. Avoid vigorous rubbing and soaking the surface. Even a cleaning product suitable for wool should only be used as directed and after testing it first. If the dirt cannot be removed gently, or the whole rug needs cleaning, consult a professional rug cleaner.
