Burgundy runner rug with a Caucasian pattern 55x149 cm – hand-knotted Afghan runner rug

Afghan Caucasian runner rug: details of the selected size

This Afghan Caucasian runner rug measures 55 cm in width and 149 cm in length. This handmade Afghan rug is knotted by hand in Afghanistan and is 8–10 mm thick. The rug is burgundy.

The Caucasian runner rug measures 55 cm in width, 149 cm in length and 8–10 mm in thickness. The knot density is approximately 180,000 knots/m². This figure indicates the number of knots per unit of surface area. Thickness is a separate characteristic: these two measurements describe different aspects of the knotted structure. The rug may also be suitable for a hallway, provided the available space accommodates its dimensions.

This handmade rug has a pile hand-knotted from wool yarn. The appearance of the wool surface may change with the viewing angle. This is due to the direction of the knotted pile: the rug reflects more light from one direction and may look darker from the other. It is therefore useful to compare product photographs taken from several directions.

The Afghan Caucasian runner rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.

Caring for your Caucasian runner rug

When cleaning the Afghan Caucasian runner rug, protecting the wool fibres should be your first consideration. Vacuum on a low setting, following the direction of the pile. Clean underneath the rug regularly and inspect the less visible areas from time to time. Regularly check the less visible parts of the rug for dirt as well.

Treat small stains before they dry, using a clean, slightly damp cloth. Avoid vigorous rubbing and soaking the surface. Even a cleaning product suitable for wool should only be used as directed and after testing it first. If the dirt cannot be removed gently, or the whole rug needs cleaning, consult a professional rug cleaner.
