Burgundy Bokhara Oriental rug 100x144 cm – handmade Afghan rug

Introducing the 100 × 144 cm Afghan Bokhara rug

This Afghan Bokhara rug measures 100 cm in width and 144 cm in length. This handmade Afghan rug is knotted by hand in Afghanistan and is 8–10 mm thick. The rug has a burgundy colour palette. The rug is made with a Bokhara pattern.

The Bokhara rug measures 100 cm in width, 144 cm in length and 8–10 mm in thickness. Thickness is a separate characteristic of the pile, while the width and length describe the area covered by the rug. Checking these measurements together before ordering gives you a clearer picture of the rug you have selected. This size may also be suitable for a bedroom.

This handmade rug has a pile knotted from wool. Hand knotting and the wool pile define the structure of the rug. The direction in which the pile lies affects the appearance: the same rug can look lighter or darker when viewed from different directions. It is therefore useful to compare product photographs taken from different angles before buying.

The Afghan Bokhara rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.

The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.

When choosing this Afghan Bokhara rug, consider the photographs of the actual product together with its 100 × 144 cm dimensions. The presentation below provides further visual information about this type of rug.

Caring for your Bokhara rug

Regular, gentle vacuuming is the basis of caring for the Afghan Bokhara rug. Set the vacuum cleaner to low suction and move the head in the direction of the wool pile. Keep the area beneath the rug clean as well. Avoid vigorous rubbing of the wool pile and, where possible, treat stains before they dry.

Treat fresh stains as soon as possible with a clean, slightly damp cloth. Do not rub the stain vigorously or soak the rug. Choose only a cleaning product suitable for wool and follow its instructions for use. Test it on a less visible area first; for stubborn stains or more extensive cleaning, consult a professional experienced in handmade Oriental rugs.
