Brown Kargai Afghan rug 125x188 cm – handmade Oriental rug

Afghan Kargai rug: details of the selected size

This Afghan Kargai rug measures 125 cm in width and 188 cm in length. This handmade Afghan rug is knotted by hand in Afghanistan and is 8–10 mm thick.

The Afghan Kargai rug is 125 cm wide, 188 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. The knot density is approximately 180,000 knots/m². Knot density is one of the numerical characteristics of the pile structure. It should be considered alongside thickness; a thicker rug does not, in itself, mean denser knotting. Its dimensions may also make it suitable for a bedroom.

This handmade rug has a pile knotted from wool. The knotted fibres form the surface of the rug that is walked on. The direction in which the fibres lie affects how they reflect light: the same surface may appear lighter from one end and darker from the other. Please bear this in mind when comparing the photographs.

The Afghan Kargai rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.

The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.

The width of 125 cm and length of 188 cm refer to this specific rug. Alongside the illustration of this type of rug, please also review the photographs of the actual product.

Cleaning information for this Afghan rug

For routine care of the Afghan Kargai rug, use a low suction setting on your vacuum cleaner. Work in the direction of the pile and avoid rubbing the wool surface vigorously. Remember to keep the area beneath the rug clean as well; moving the rug occasionally allows you to remove dust that has collected underneath.

For spilled liquids, first blot up the moisture with a clean cloth. Do not rub the wool surface vigorously or use a cleaning product unless you know it is suitable for wool. Always test the chosen product in a less visible area first. For extensive or stubborn soiling, or a full clean, consult a professional.
