Afghan Khal Mohammadi rug hand-knotted from wool
This Afghan Khal Mohammadi rug measures 120 cm in width and 194 cm in length. This handmade Afghan rug is knotted by hand in Afghanistan and is 8–10 mm thick. The rug has a burgundy colour palette.
The Khal Mohammadi rug measures 120 cm in width, 194 cm in length and 8–10 mm in thickness. The knot density is approximately 180,000 knots/m². Knot density is one of the numerical characteristics of the pile structure. It should be considered alongside thickness; a thicker rug does not, in itself, mean denser knotting. The rug may also be suitable for a bedroom, provided the available space accommodates its dimensions.
This handmade rug has a pile knotted from wool. The appearance of the wool surface may change with the viewing angle. This is due to the direction of the knotted pile: the rug reflects more light from one direction and may look darker from the other. It is therefore useful to compare product photographs taken from several directions.
The Afghan Khal Mohammadi rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.
The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.
When choosing this Afghan Khal Mohammadi rug, consider the photographs of the actual product together with its 120 × 194 cm dimensions. The presentation below provides further visual information about this type of rug.

Cleaning the hand-knotted wool pile
The hand-knotted wool pile requires gentle cleaning. When vacuuming the Afghan Khal Mohammadi rug, select the lowest suction setting and work in the direction of the pile. Move the rug occasionally so that you can clean the area underneath. Regularly inspecting the Afghan rug also plays a part in preventing moth damage.
With stains, prompt and gentle treatment is important. Try removing fresh dirt with a slightly damp cloth, without soaking or vigorous rubbing. Use only a cleaning product suitable for Afghan rugs, following the manufacturer's instructions and testing it first. For more extensive cleaning, choose a professional experienced in caring for handmade Oriental rugs.
