Introducing the 206 × 292 cm Afghan Khal Mohammadi rug
This Afghan Khal Mohammadi rug is a handmade Oriental rug of Afghan origin, measuring 206 × 292 cm. With its wool pile, it is 8–10 mm thick. The rug has a burgundy colour palette.
The Khal Mohammadi rug measures 206 cm in width, 292 cm in length and 8–10 mm in thickness. The knot density is approximately 180,000 knots/m². The knot count is given per square metre, allowing this rug to be compared with handmade Oriental rugs of different sizes in this respect. This figure does not represent the total number of knots in the entire rug. Its dimensions may also make it suitable for a living room.
This handmade rug has a pile knotted from wool. The knotted fibres form the surface of the rug that is walked on. The direction in which the fibres lie affects how they reflect light: the same surface may appear lighter from one end and darker from the other. Please bear this in mind when comparing the photographs.
The Afghan Khal Mohammadi rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.
The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.
The width of 206 cm and length of 292 cm refer to this specific rug. Alongside the illustration of this type of rug, please also review the photographs of the actual product.

Cleaning information for this Afghan rug
The hand-knotted wool pile requires gentle cleaning. When vacuuming the Afghan Khal Mohammadi rug, select the lowest suction setting and work in the direction of the pile. Move the rug occasionally so that you can clean the area underneath. Regularly inspecting the Afghan rug also plays a part in preventing moth damage.
Treat small stains before they dry, using a clean, slightly damp cloth. Avoid vigorous rubbing and soaking the surface. Even a cleaning product suitable for wool should only be used as directed and after testing it first. If the dirt cannot be removed gently, or the whole rug needs cleaning, consult a professional rug cleaner.
