Burgundy Ersari Afghan rug 252x346 cm – handmade Oriental rug

Afghan Ersari rug from Afghanistan

The key features of this Afghan Ersari rug are its 252 × 346 cm dimensions, 8–10 mm thickness and wool material. The rug originates from Afghanistan and is knotted by hand. Shades of burgundy define the colour palette of the rug.

The Ersari rug is 252 cm wide, 346 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. Its knot density is approximately 180,000 knots/m². The knot count is given per square metre, allowing this rug to be compared with handmade Oriental rugs of different sizes in this respect. This figure does not represent the total number of knots in the entire rug. The rug may also be suitable for a living room, provided the available space accommodates its dimensions.

The knotted part of this handmade rug is made of wool. Hand knotting and the wool pile define the structure of the rug. The direction in which the pile lies affects the appearance: the same rug can look lighter or darker when viewed from different directions. It is therefore useful to compare product photographs taken from different angles before buying.

The Afghan Ersari rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.

The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.

The width of 252 cm and length of 346 cm refer to this specific rug. Alongside the illustration of this type of rug, please also review the photographs of the actual product.

Caring for your Ersari rug

For routine care of the Afghan Ersari rug, use a low suction setting on your vacuum cleaner. Work in the direction of the pile and avoid rubbing the wool surface vigorously. Remember to keep the area beneath the rug clean as well; moving the rug occasionally allows you to remove dust that has collected underneath.

With stains, prompt and gentle treatment is important. Try removing fresh dirt with a slightly damp cloth, without soaking or vigorous rubbing. Use only a cleaning product suitable for Afghan rugs, following the manufacturer's instructions and testing it first. For more extensive cleaning, choose a professional experienced in caring for handmade Oriental rugs.
