Aqcha Bukhara Oriental rug 101x148 cm – handmade Afghan rug

Introducing the 101 × 148 cm Afghan Aqcha rug

This 101 × 148 cm Afghan Aqcha rug originates from Afghanistan. It is hand-knotted with a wool pile and is 8–10 mm thick. Shades of burgundy and green define the colour palette of the rug.

The Aqcha rug is 101 cm wide, 148 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. The knot density is approximately 80,000 knots/m². Knot density is one of the numerical characteristics of the pile structure. It should be considered alongside thickness; a thicker rug does not, in itself, mean denser knotting. This size may also be suitable for a bedroom.

The knotted part of this handmade rug is made of wool. The appearance of the wool surface may change with the viewing angle. This is due to the direction of the knotted pile: the rug reflects more light from one direction and may look darker from the other. It is therefore useful to compare product photographs taken from several directions.

The Afghan Aqcha rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.

The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.

The width of 101 cm and length of 148 cm refer to this specific rug. Alongside the illustration of this type of rug, please also review the photographs of the actual product.

Cleaning the hand-knotted wool pile

For routine care of the Afghan Aqcha rug, use a low suction setting on your vacuum cleaner. Work in the direction of the pile and avoid rubbing the wool surface vigorously. Remember to keep the area beneath the rug clean as well; moving the rug occasionally allows you to remove dust that has collected underneath.

Treat fresh stains as soon as possible with a clean, slightly damp cloth. Do not rub the stain vigorously or soak the rug. Choose only a cleaning product suitable for wool and follow its instructions for use. Test it on a less visible area first; for stubborn stains or more extensive cleaning, consult a professional experienced in handmade Oriental rugs.
