Aqcha Bukhara Oriental runner rug 80x285 cm – handmade Afghan rug

Afghan Aqcha runner rug from Afghanistan

This Afghan Aqcha runner rug measures 80 cm in width and 285 cm in length. This handmade Afghan rug is knotted by hand in Afghanistan and is 8–10 mm thick. Shades of blue and burgundy define the colour palette of the rug.

The Aqcha runner rug is 80 cm wide, 285 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. The knot density is approximately 80,000 knots/m². The knot count is given per square metre, allowing this rug to be compared with handmade Oriental rugs of different sizes in this respect. This figure does not represent the total number of knots in the entire rug. This size may also be suitable for a hallway.

This handmade rug has a pile hand-knotted from wool yarn. The appearance of the wool surface may change with the viewing angle. This is due to the direction of the knotted pile: the rug reflects more light from one direction and may look darker from the other. It is therefore useful to compare product photographs taken from several directions.

The Afghan Aqcha runner rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.

Cleaning information for this Afghan rug

The hand-knotted wool pile requires gentle cleaning. When vacuuming the Afghan Aqcha runner rug, select the lowest suction setting and work in the direction of the pile. Move the rug occasionally so that you can clean the area underneath. Regularly inspecting the Afghan rug also plays a part in preventing moth damage.

Treat fresh stains as soon as possible with a clean, slightly damp cloth. Do not rub the stain vigorously or soak the rug. Choose only a cleaning product suitable for wool and follow its instructions for use. Test it on a less visible area first; for stubborn stains or more extensive cleaning, consult a professional experienced in handmade Oriental rugs.
