Authentic Afghan Maimana Kilim rug 61x90 cm

The surface of the 61 cm wide Maimana Kilim

This particular Maimana Kilim rug measures 61 × 90 cm and is made from wool. The 61 cm width and 90 cm length refer to the product shown. It is a hand woven textile made on a loom in Afghanistan, belonging to the Maimana Kilim family. Its surface has no knotted pile; the textile is formed by the weave itself.

The video introduces the making and origins of Maimana Kilim rugs.

The Maimana Kilim rug shown here is made from wool. Its 61 × 90 cm dimensions give an area of approximately 0.55 m². This rug belongs to the Maimana Kilim type. Both a wool-suitable product and gentle handling of the hand woven surface are important when cleaning it.

The rug's own product photographs show its specific appearance. Close-ups show details of the wool surface, while full views show the entire woven rug. The photograph included in the description complements the introduction to the Maimana Kilim rug type.

How the 61 × 90 cm woollen Kilim is made

Interweaving wool yarns on a loom creates the Maimana Kilim's surface. Crosswise weft yarns interlace with the stretched warp yarns to form the flat textile. The Kilim has no separate knotted pile; its surface is formed by the weave itself. In this rug, that structure is approximately 4–5 mm thick. Its hand woven construction is combined with wool material and Afghan origins.

Washing and drying are the final steps in making a Maimana Kilim. In favourable weather, the washed textiles are dried in the sun; at other times, fans assist the process. The finished rug then joins CarpetDepo's range. Choose a gentle method for care at home and entrust full cleaning to a specialist.

Caring for the Maimana Kilim rug

For regular dust removal from the wool textile, use your vacuum cleaner's lowest setting. Gentle cleaning is particularly important for this hand woven rug. For small, fresh marks, use a slightly damp cloth and ensure that the Kilim does not become soaked. Treat the stain before it dries whenever possible.

If you use a cleaning product, choose one suitable for wool and test it first on a small, inconspicuous area. For a stubborn stain or a full clean, consult a rug-cleaning specialist. Avoid hanging up the rug and beating it with a carpet beater, as this may damage the hand woven structure. The photograph of rug beating draws attention to this method, which should be avoided.

Avoid the rug-beating method shown in the photograph when caring for a woollen Kilim.
