Ethnic Afghan wool Chobi Kilim rug 63x90 cm

Hand woven wool Chobi Kilim rug

This Chobi Kilim rug measures 63 × 90 cm and originates in Afghanistan. The woollen Kilim rug was woven by hand. The surface of the approximately 4–5 mm thick textile is formed by weaving, rather than a separate knotted pile layer. The rug's main colours are green and orange.

The 63 cm width and 90 cm length together define the rug's dimensions. Compare the exact dimensions with the space available before ordering.

The wool material of the Chobi Kilim rug was woven by hand. Made from 100% wool, the Kilim's construction gives it a flat, woven surface. The approximately 4–5 mm thickness describes the rug's construction; it is not, by itself, a durability or quality rating. Close-up photographs of the textile help you examine its surface details.

The video below introduces the making and origins of Chobi Kilim rugs.

This 63 × 90 cm Afghan rug belongs to the Chobi Kilim type. The name Chobi Kilim identifies this type. The video provides background on Kilim production, while the specific rug can be examined in its own product photographs.

The photograph below introduces this hand woven Kilim rug type.

Hand weaving of the Chobi Kilim rug is followed by finishing, including four washes. This production stage must not be taken to mean the rug is washable at home. Regular care of the woollen Kilim requires careful dust removal and gentle treatment of fresh stains.

Cleaning suited to the rug's material

Keep the wool surface clean with gentle vacuuming on a low setting. Move carefully across the whole textile, paying particular attention to the edges. Remember to remove dust from the area underneath the rug too.

Small stains should be treated while fresh with a slightly damp cloth. Do not soak the wool surface or rub it vigorously. If you use a cleaner, check that it is recommended for wool and carry out a test first. Entrust thorough cleaning to a specialist.

Moving the textile occasionally allows you to clean the surface underneath and check the rug's condition. When caring for the woollen Kilim, also pay attention to protection against moths. Do not beat the textile with a stick, as this can damage the weave.

Avoid the beating method shown in the photograph for this Kilim rug too.
