Gebbe rug: details of the selected size
This 104 × 124 cm Gebbe rug originates from Afghanistan. It is hand-knotted with a wool pile and is 8–10 mm thick. The rug has a brown and beige colour palette.
The Gebbe rug measures 104 cm in width, 124 cm in length and 8–10 mm in thickness. Its knot density is approximately 180,000 knots/m². The knot count is given per square metre, allowing this rug to be compared with handmade Oriental rugs of different sizes in this respect. This figure does not represent the total number of knots in the entire rug. Its dimensions may also make it suitable for a bedroom.
This handmade rug has a pile hand-knotted from wool yarn. The knotted fibres form the surface of the rug that is walked on. The direction in which the fibres lie affects how they reflect light: the same surface may appear lighter from one end and darker from the other. Please bear this in mind when comparing the photographs.
The Gebbe rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.

Cleaning information for this Afghan rug
The hand-knotted wool pile requires gentle cleaning. When vacuuming the Gebbe rug, select the lowest suction setting and work in the direction of the pile. Move the rug occasionally so that you can clean the area underneath. Regularly inspecting the Afghan rug also plays a part in preventing moth damage.
With stains, prompt and gentle treatment is important. Try removing fresh dirt with a slightly damp cloth, without soaking or vigorous rubbing. Use only a cleaning product suitable for Afghan rugs, following the manufacturer's instructions and testing it first. For more extensive cleaning, choose a professional experienced in caring for handmade Oriental rugs.
