Gebbe Oriental rug 104x148 cm – hand-knotted modern rug

Gebbe rug from Afghanistan

The key features of this Gebbe rug are its 104 × 148 cm dimensions, 8–10 mm thickness and wool material. The rug originates from Afghanistan and is knotted by hand. The rug is brown and beige.

The Gebbe rug measures 104 cm in width, 148 cm in length and 8–10 mm in thickness. Its knot density is approximately 180,000 knots/m². The knot count is given per square metre, allowing this rug to be compared with handmade Oriental rugs of different sizes in this respect. This figure does not represent the total number of knots in the entire rug. This size may also be suitable for a bedroom.

This handmade rug has a pile knotted from wool. Knotted wool fibres form the pile of the rug. Pile direction matters for more than appearance: this is also the direction to follow when vacuuming. The way the surface reflects light may vary depending on which end of the rug you view it from.

The Gebbe rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.

The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.

When choosing this Gebbe rug, consider the photographs of the actual product together with its 104 × 148 cm dimensions. The presentation below provides further visual information about this type of rug.

Gebbe rug: gentle care

The hand-knotted wool pile requires gentle cleaning. When vacuuming the Gebbe rug, select the lowest suction setting and work in the direction of the pile. Move the rug occasionally so that you can clean the area underneath. Regularly inspecting the Afghan rug also plays a part in preventing moth damage.

For spilled liquids, first blot up the moisture with a clean cloth. Do not rub the wool surface vigorously or use a cleaning product unless you know it is suitable for wool. Always test the chosen product in a less visible area first. For extensive or stubborn soiling, or a full clean, consult a professional.
