Burgundy Oriental rug with a Caucasian pattern 52x140 cm – handmade Afghan rug

Afghan rug with a Caucasian pattern from Afghanistan

This Afghan rug with a Caucasian pattern measures 52 cm in width and 140 cm in length. This handmade Afghan rug is knotted by hand in Afghanistan and is 8–10 mm thick. Shades of burgundy define the colour palette of the rug.

The rug with a Caucasian pattern is 52 cm wide, 140 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. The knot density is approximately 180,000 knots/m². The knot count is given per square metre, allowing this rug to be compared with handmade Oriental rugs of different sizes in this respect. This figure does not represent the total number of knots in the entire rug.

This handmade rug has a pile knotted from wool. Hand knotting and the wool pile define the structure of the rug. The direction in which the pile lies affects the appearance: the same rug can look lighter or darker when viewed from different directions. It is therefore useful to compare product photographs taken from different angles before buying.

This Afghan rug with a Caucasian pattern is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.

The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.

When choosing this Afghan rug with a Caucasian pattern, consider the photographs of the actual product together with its 52 × 140 cm dimensions. The presentation below provides further visual information about this type of rug.

Caring for your rug with a Caucasian pattern

Regular, gentle vacuuming is the basis of caring for this Afghan rug with a Caucasian pattern. Set the vacuum cleaner to low suction and move the head in the direction of the wool pile. Keep the area beneath the rug clean as well. Avoid vigorous rubbing of the wool pile and, where possible, treat stains before they dry.

For spilled liquids, first blot up the moisture with a clean cloth. Do not rub the wool surface vigorously or use a cleaning product unless you know it is suitable for wool. Always test the chosen product in a less visible area first. For extensive or stubborn soiling, or a full clean, consult a professional.
