Afghan Ersari rug: features of the knotted pile
This Afghan Ersari rug measures 195 cm in width and 294 cm in length. This handmade Afghan rug is knotted by hand in Afghanistan and is 8–10 mm thick. The rug has a burgundy colour palette.
The Ersari rug is 195 cm wide, 294 cm long and 8–10 mm thick. The knot density is approximately 180,000 knots/m². The knot count is given per square metre, allowing this rug to be compared with handmade Oriental rugs of different sizes in this respect. This figure does not represent the total number of knots in the entire rug. The rug may also be suitable for a living room, provided the available space accommodates its dimensions.
This handmade rug has a pile hand-knotted from wool yarn. The appearance of the wool surface may change with the viewing angle. This is due to the direction of the knotted pile: the rug reflects more light from one direction and may look darker from the other. It is therefore useful to compare product photographs taken from several directions.
The Afghan Ersari rug is knotted by hand. Knots formed from wool yarn make up the pile of the rug; this construction method is one of the defining features of the rug. The video showing how it is made provides an overview of the process.
The video below presents the origin and making of the Afghan rug.
When choosing this Afghan Ersari rug, consider the photographs of the actual product together with its 195 × 294 cm dimensions. The presentation below provides further visual information about this type of rug.

Ersari rug: gentle care
The hand-knotted wool pile requires gentle cleaning. When vacuuming the Afghan Ersari rug, select the lowest suction setting and work in the direction of the pile. Move the rug occasionally so that you can clean the area underneath. Regularly inspecting the Afghan rug also plays a part in preventing moth damage.
For spilled liquids, first blot up the moisture with a clean cloth. Do not rub the wool surface vigorously or use a cleaning product unless you know it is suitable for wool. Always test the chosen product in a less visible area first. For extensive or stubborn soiling, or a full clean, consult a professional.
